Shia Labeouf is coming clean in a new interview regarding alcoholism and his July 2008 car accident where he flipped his Ford truck and severely damaged his left hand.
He tells the June issue of Playboy magazine, “I had a whiskey and three beers. I’m not going to start speaking on law stuff now and corner myself, but the fact that I ever got into the car was a mistake.”
As part of his alcohol treatment he adds, “I’m in AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) now, too. I’ve had drinks, but it has been a levelling-out process. Am I an alcoholic? I may not be. I don’t know. But I also know that, in the situation I’m in, with temptations what they are, I have no room for alcohol in my life.”
He admits even the smallest actions are a painful struggle, but Labeouf has learned to accept he will have to live with the consequences of that fateful night for the rest of his life.
He tells the June issue of Playboy magazine, “I can’t zipper my zipper or button my shirt without extreme pain.”
Alcohol abuse is common among young people and even stars are not immune to the temptation. The star is preparing for his third surgery on his shattered hand, which was badly damaged when he flipped his truck after colliding with another car and he admits the smash was a huge wake-up call. “This accident is what I needed in my life. I’m not in control. For the first time, I can admit that and know that. I’m a fallible individual, and the hand is like a tattoo that says Mistake.
“It’s something I’ll have to live with for the rest of my life.”
Many young people with alcohol abuse problems are counseled to seek help before something serious like this happens to them. There is no need to experience a car crash to have a wake-up call of their own. For many young men and women, the solution is a long term alcohol rehab or some sort of alcohol rehab.
