Getting help for drug addiction is not as easy as it seems. Many times one does not even know where to start, or what the different options are. Here is a list of a few different types of facilities that can help.
If money is not an issue, there are centers hidden away on remote islands where you can relax and refocus away from the stress of your everyday life. These type of resort getaways are very costly, but worth the money. Not only is the addiction treated, but the entire person is evaluated. Many times these places offer special dietary options.
Many communities are responding to the growing need of resources and sober living homes are sprouting up all over. A sober living home provides a sober environment to live in. In addition, random drug tests are usually given to ensure the participation of all housemates. It may be difficult to live with other people if you are used to living on your own. Living with other people who are going through a similar situation can be a source of support. These centers may be treatment centers or post treatment centers.
Inpatient treatment centers require the patient to live at the center for a period of time. These centers often have blackout days for the first 5-30 days of the program. During these blackout days, patients are not allowed to leave the facility. Most of these facilities have a resident nurse adviser to help dispense medications and help with withdrawal syndromes. This is the ideal place for patients experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms and or dual diagnosis issues.
Outpatient services allow patients to come to meetings and receive treatment while maintaining their regular lives. These facilities have mandatory classes and activities that the patient must attend. Patients attend meetings and groups at the center, but live on their own. This type of facility is ideal for a person who has a job and a family that need them.
