Celebrities are known for their run-ins with the law, are notorious for their struggles with addiction, and are well-acquainted with the rehab cycle. One celebrity who has truly mastered this is Lindsay Lohan.
Lohan, age 27, has been part of the entertainment industry since the age of three. She has worked as a model, actress, and singer. By her early teens she had established a solid career with box office hits like Parent Trap and Freaky Friday. Having received numerous awards and transitioned well from Disney to mainstream entertainment, she seemed to be on the road to success.
However in 2011 everything began to spiral out of control. A series of accidents and a conviction of misdemeanor theft started her down a bad path. Since that time she has spent time in and out of jail, on probation, and serving various stints in rehab. Most recently she had been sentenced to 90 days in a locked down rehab center, 30 days community service, and 18 months psychotherapy. She was serving her time at the Betty Ford clinic until reports of a drug outbreak.
There is a lot of speculation over what has caused this epic and long term meltdown with the once beloved star. The tumultuous relationship between her parents has long been considered a factor. The on again off again relationship ended in divorce in 2007 but has left it’s marks on the star. There is little to no communication between father and daughter and the family as a whole has felt the strain.
Some also question the effects of the pressure of Hollywood. The constant stress of looking and acting a certain way combined with the constant criticism of the entertainment media and fans isn’t easy to deal with. Being stalked by paparazzi and every ounce of privacy jeopardized would cause even the strongest person to crack.
Whether you follow the latest antics of celebrities or not it’s hard not to be hopeful that this time it will work, this time she will beat it. That the bright-eyed, red haired darling with so much potential will find her way back and realize all that is waiting for her in a clean and sober life.
